2010…a Year in Review, My Top 10 Memorable/Favorite shots   26 comments

A few other great photographers have put together various “Top 10 of 2010″ postings on their  blogs and  websites, so I thought this would be a good idea to wrap up the year by posting something along the same lines.  I have went through my stream and pulled out what are my most 10 memorable/favorite shots that I posted to Flickr, and why they made the list. Usually every photo tells a story or tries to capture a moment in time, these are not necessarily all my best shots, but I think they represent the most memorable times of 2010 and some favorite places, so here they are, in no particular order, hope you enjoy. Wishing all who stop a wonderful Holiday Season and prosperous New Year from Theaterwiz and the Empress!

#1 The Empress…Tattoo Al…She did…Empress Sty-Al

What would a great year be without the Empress, this shot was taken with the help of fellow Flickr member Tattoo Al, we had a blast shooting this and Al was a great sport during the whole shoot.

Currently this is my most viewed picture on Flickr, currently at 6,367 views and 112 Favorites, who woulda thunk it?

#2 Hopefully,…..He has it LICKED

Earlier this year my Father was diagnosed with Colon Cancer, although not good memories early on, he has since been fully cleared as A-OK, after a long summer of Chemo and prodding and poking, I would have to say that’s the best Christmas gift any family can have!

#3 The “Tommy Gun” Mansion

This was a great find in Newport Kentucky, right across the river from Cincinnati. This was the mansion once owned by the inventor of the Tommy Gun, a very cool place, now a nightclub.  It was a great cloud day when I shot this one, this Image was made an Editors Pick on HDR Spotting, and will also be published in a Gun book earlier this year.

#4 Curly’s Bridge

This Picture was posted when my Pregnant Sister created yet another memorable event for 2010, an emergency Hospital stay really far from home, which ended in a very risky emergency Surgery for her due to  little pre-mature Curly.(Christian)  This picture depicted the long road ahead for both and the stadium represented the light at the end of the long trail with friends and family waiting to cheer! yea, I know, corny, but she liked it! Curly and mom are all A-OK as well . This was shot in Newport KY looking at the Reds Ballpark.

#5 New Toys in 2010

The shot, all aboard the CVSR, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, was the first test with my new Promote Control, love the thing but it’s still a bit quirky, also in 2010 was the arrival and upgrade to the Canon 7D, gotta love new gear, always a good memory!

#6 The Great Dragoon-Gettysburg PA

As you probably noticed by my stream, the Empress and I love History, specifically the Civil War. We are lucky enough to live about 5 hours from this historic place and I remember telling the Empress the first time we visited 2 years ago “We will be back some day” boy was that an understatement, if I just mention Gettysburg she is packing her bags. The Empress has had several of her shots published in Civil war publications this year, along with being featured in the Civil War Preservation Trust Calendar for 2011. The shot above, the Great Dragoon was an Editors Pick on HDR Spotting and my Left Wing shot of Reynolds won third place in the CWPT annual photo contest and will also be featured in publications and calendars in 2011.

#7 Hot Lips of Fort Moultrie

One of my favorite non HDR shots, a macro of course. I think I will try to sharpen my macro skills a bit more in 2011, this is one of my 2 shots ever to make Explore on Flickr, not that explore is anything to write home about, never figured that whole explore thing out.

#8 Plain Old Shed…Built it myself

This was one of the most memorable Sunrise shots I captured out my back door, had to hurry to grab the camera to rip off 3 exposures, then it was gone! This was also an Editors Pick on HDR Spotting and one of my favorites of the year.

#9 The REAL Green Mile, ya gotta love Savannah!

This is the Wormsloe Historic Site in Savannah, we love it down there and this year we were blessed with another trip and some good fortune, we will be making another trip down in February 2011 and cannot wait! This was also an Editors Pick on HDR Spotting and one of my favorites.

#10 Take The Shot

This has to be one of our favorite spots, Marblehead Ohio, and this has to be one of my favorite captures of the year as well. I shot this when the Empress and I were visiting late fall, actually got her an antique Hoosier cabinet that weekend, her Christmas present, the one she baked her noodles on in the last Empress shot. This is my second highest viewed shot on Flickr, and my highest viewed shot on HDR spotting with over 66,000 views and an Editors Pick as well.

Thanks for your support and for the visits, wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  7. Hey Mike. What a great year it’s been. I can remember this time last year, I was just getting started with HDR photography seriously and you were one of the first connections I made on Flickr. I remember you telling my about Trey Ratcliff and I was like who? Lol. I knew your name before his, however his images were subconsciously imprinted into my brain and you helped me make the connection.

Your photography has been outstanding all year and this collection rocks, I wish you all the best for 2011.

  8. What a wonderful set! Looking forward to seeing another set of wonderful images throughout the next year!
